My husbands birthday was around the corner and I had to plan something just in time for his birthday weekend. Since he has been raving about going to Fujairah, I decided to book a night at Le Meridien Al Aqah resort in Fujairah. Le Méridien Al Aqah resort is located on a 230 m stretch of a pristine beach and fronted by the Indian Ocean with the breathtaking Hajar Mountains forming the backdrop. The beach resort is a 90-minute drive from Dubai and is a perfect getaway if you’re looking for an ideal beach spot to relax. The drive to the resort is great as you get a view of the mountains on the way. The hotel was recently renovated and revamped in 2013 and completed by 2014. They redesigned their rooms, restaurants, beaches and even recreational spots. The resort stands tall facing the Indian ocean and is the only 5 star resort in Al Aqah, Fujairah.
I had booked their Superior non smoking room which cost me 875 dhs & included breakfast at their Views Restaurant. The renovated Superior rooms are located on higher floors and we can enjoy the view of the calming Indian Ocean from our room itself. We were in the 10th floor so the view from our room balcony was breathtakingly beautiful!
All rooms come with free Wi-Fi internet, walk in wardrobes and power showers as well as high-speed internet at a fee. The size of the superior room is 48 square metres and can accommodate up to 2 adults and 2 kids. Our room was quite big and comfortable.
Since it was my husbands birthday, the management placed a complimentary cake in our room when we went down for dinner.
They also surprised him in the morning by writing his name on the beach, which was truly amazing as we could view it from the room balcony 🙂
Le Meridien Al Aqah has an excellent choice of restaurants with an array of cuisines be it Thai, Indian, Italian or International. Some of the restaurants are fine dining indoors and some of them are outdoors facing the beach and swimming pool. During our visit we tried the Thai Restaurant and Baywatch Beach & Pool Bar. We dint dine at Gonu Bar & Grill, though its our favourite restaurant every time we visit the resort. The weather wasn’t the best to dine by the beach.
Taste Thai Restaurant
Inspired by the intricate art of the traditional Thai kitchen, Taste, the hotel’s signature restaurant, offers a culinary adventure serving mouth-watering dishes from Thailand in stylish surroundings.
The interiors of the restaurant was themed and had a traditional Thai touch to it. As we walk towards the restaurant, there were statues of Thai ladies at the entrance. Even the furniture had a Thai touch with dragons and Thai silk cushions. The delicious meal is complimented by live music and the option of dining al fresco during the cooler months.
The restaurant serves traditional thai but also caters to customers who have allergies like gluten, nuts, dairy etc. The chef was kind enough to prepare me gluten-free dishes that tasted fresh and yummy. I couldn’t take all food pics as the restaurant was quite dark and the pics weren’t coming out clear. We ordered Gluten free Spicy prawn clear soup, Beef & Basil stir fry and spicy seafood noodles. The food was good but I found the seafood noodles too spicy. For our son we ordered Goog gai which was grilled chicken breast with steamed rice, steamed broccoli and carrots. He really liked the dish. Overall the food was delicious but pricey.
Baywatch Beach & Pool Bar
The Baywatch Bar serves finger food, starters, salads, mains, desserts & drinks. The restaurant is divided into 3 sections, one side of the restaurant facing the beach, one inside the pool serving drinks and another outside the pool having limited seating area. We ordered Crispy Fried Calamari and Just fried tortilla chips. The food takes long to arrive so be sure to order something off the menu before you take a dip in the pool or beach. The service is a bit slow. The fried calamari was too oily and soggy. The tortilla chips was really good and the dips were fresh.

Just fried tortilla chips
Crispy Fried Calamari
We had breakfast at this restaurant and I wasn’t happy with the spread they had. The restaurant didn’t have much to offer. The seating area was quite cramped with people walking around and past our table. Finally, we left the restaurant after having a few muffins and pastries with tea.

Stay & Experience
I had bought the voucher from Groupon for one night stay so I emailed the resort requesting for available dates to use my voucher and it being my husbands birthday I wanted to make it extra special for him. At first the reservation desk emailed me back saying the rooms were fully booked and they couldn’t accommodate us for the dates we requested and that they would charge us for the birthday cake. Being a groupon voucher such special requests wouldn’t be included for free. If we had booked directly with the resort we would have been entitled to the additional services. This put me off as we were guests and it was important that the resort took our requests into consideration so I replied back asking for the hotel manager to meet me. The manager asked us to come to the resort and that they would take care of our needs. As promised, the hotel manager not only ensured we had a good time but also took our requests into consideration and truly pampered us during our stay at Al Aqah. The resort is a perfect getaway from the busy routine life in the city.
What to Expect
Best time to visit the resort is during the months of October to April when the weather is a bit cooler & bearable. The resort has a lot to offer, they have a kids club, baby sitting services, restaurants, spa, fitness club, beach & pool bars, recreational room, huge swimming pools and a vast well maintained beach. Do visit their spa & fitness club as its the best. We didn’t get time to use the spa. Just next to the resort they have Al Boom Diving where they do diving trips. The resort is beautiful and well maintained.
